Today we'll sing a dreamy and melancholic melody from 1896, one of the Russian Art Songs my grandfather, a veteran of WWII, a retired lieutenant colonel, used to play on an old out of tune bayan (button accordion). It stayed with me for all these years and I even chose it as a central musical moments in a production of of Nikolai Gogol's Marriage in The Belgrade Theatre, Coventry, where I was Music Director in 2013.
