A Celebration of Jewish Music Featuring Merlin and Polina Shepherd Duo
With a focus of Klezmer, Yiddish and Ladino music you will hear the full breath of the Jewish music World.
The Zemel Choir, established in 1955, is proud of its international reputation as one of the world’s finest mixed-voice Jewish choirs. Our wide-ranging repertoire embraces all the traditional Jewish cultures, Ashkenazi, Sephardi, Yiddish and Israeli. Zemel regularly perform in major venues throughout the U.K. and overseas and, besides singing well-known favourites, they present new music from contemporary composers.
Merlin & Polina Shepherd perform together in a way that is rarely encountered. Playing Music from several linked cultures and maintaining the styles, they also incorporate improvisation, freedom and spontaneity. With a unique approach to Klezmer, Turkish, Slavic, Greek and Romanian music they weave a sound that, so like music from these countries themselves, moves the listener physically, emotionally and spiritually.
