Singing new and traditional Yiddish songs in 2-4-part vocal harmonies, to be as close to being a choir as singing online can be. Learning songs with sheet music and by ear.
Song sheets with music, transliterations and translations will be provided.
We will be meeting on Zoom and participants will be invited to send their audio recordings to the leader so that we hear ourselves singing together on an edited audio file 2-3 of times in the course.
You will also have an opportunity to sing to the group – one person at a time, if you feel inspired!
Teaching methods are based on traditional SATB chorale plus experimentation with East European sound, phrasing, ornamentation, and modalities; with attention to stylistic detail, history, and context.
Knowledge of Yiddish or pitch perfect singing are not necessary but love of music and and open mind would help. Come, sing, it’s good for you!
Young people from the former Soviet Union can register for free, college students elsewhere can register with 50% discount.
