The prize-winning, 40-piece Caravan Orchestra & Choir is in its seventh year of musical exchange between the diverse communities of Weimar and Haifa. Young musicians from both places explore a program of Yiddish, Ottoman, Greek and Middle Eastern music in a multicultural and diverse environment. The program focuses on finding the connections that already exist between musical traditions that are often seen as unrelated, as well as celebrating the varied musical and cultural backgrounds that participants themselves bring to the ensemble.
This year, Caravan Orchestra & Choir is once again led by Polina Shepherd alongside and excellent international team of Eftychia Mitritsa (vocals, Athens), Mehmet Ali Orman (Clarinet & Dance; Istanbul and Zoë Aqua (violin; USA).
