Yiddish Songs that Tell Stories. Open Workshop. London, UK.
November 17, 2024 @ 15:00 - 17:00 UTC+0
£10Stories that unfold in a song – ballads, love stories, Chasidic fables, folk tales… What do they tell us and what can we learn from them? Whilst singing these songs we can touch a medieval witch’s hand or feel the excitement of a young boy at a revolutionary barricade in 1917. We can talk to the stars with an old mystic and with all that experience, look into the future.
All welcome, knowledge of Yiddish is not necessary, just bring an open mind and heart.
Yiddish is a 1000-year-old language of the Jews of Eastern Europe. Yiddish folk songs are deeply rooted in spiritual traditions, also they have been influenced by many other East European cultures. They speak about people’s everyday life and express every colour of human emotion.
Led by Polina Shepherd, one of Europe’s leading musicians in this field, this workshop is open to all.
Come and have lunch at the cafe beforehand, it’s great food and coffee!
Start time: 3pm. The workshop will be about 1 hour 45 minutes.
