An open session of singing with Polina Shepherd.
A special afternoon of Yiddish songs and Hasidic “nigunim” – melodies without words – awaits you at the Old Synagogue. A singing experience with and for all of us – no prior knowledge required. Polina Shepherd’s choral work encompasses many aspects of vocal music, from large choirs to smaller chamber music groups, from carefully arranged and conducted pieces to choral improvisations.
Free admission
Following the group singing, the Old Synagogue in Essen will open the special exhibition “Essen in Motion. Dore Jacobs and the Cultures of Bodies.”
With the Women’s Places NRW project, the Women’s Council NRW e.V. is honoring 57 women’s personalities from over 1,000 years and all corners of the (present-day) state at 52 locations until the end of 2025. They were educators and politicians, millers and painters, resistance fighters and scientists, churchwomen and war reporters. Information panels make their (women’s) history visible and honour their achievements. The opening of the Women’s Place Old Synagogue Essen will take place on October 19, 2025. Dore Jacobs’ Exhibition is part of this project.
