Caravan Orchestra and Choir is an exchange project between Yiddish Summer Weimar (Germany) and the Department of Music of אוניברסיטת חיפה – University of Haifa (Israel), in cooperation with the International Office University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar (Germany). The project will rehearse and perform in Haifa, Israel, on 24 July to 1 August and in Weimar, Germany, on 2-11 August (dates tbc). 

Together with the artistic directors, participants explore both European Jewish and Arab music. While having clear differences in the repertoire and style, Ashkenazic Jewish (Yiddish) and Arab music share some forms, tonal material and, most importantly, a performance philosophy with similar approach to improvisation, ornamentation, modality and many other concepts that we discover again each time!

Das Caravan Orchestra & Choir, das mit dem Shimon-Peres-Preis ausgezeichnete Kooperationsprojekt des Yiddish Summer Weimar, der Universität Haifa und der Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar, kehrt 2022 mit einem neuen Team von künstlerischen Leiter*innen und einem neuen Programm zurück! Was gleich bleibt, ist die unglaubliche Energie und Inspiration, die von jungen Musiker*innen aus Israel und Europa ausgeht, die tief in ihre eigenen und die gegenseitigen Musiktraditionen eintauchen und musikalische Mischformen hervorbringen, die es so noch nie gegeben hat.
